Across three decades Betsy DeVos has impressed me with her willingness to work as hard as possible for people who are hoping to improve their lives in terms of getting the best possible education or developing a range of new skills. Betsy DeVos has been at the forefront of the push to reform education, which is where I came across the Holland, Michigan born daughter of industrialist Ed Prince who married Dick DeVos, the son of the founder of the globally successful AmWay Group of direct sales companies. After looking for the best ways of providing a high quality education for my own children I came across the work of Betsy DeVos and believe her work as an advocate for school choice and school voucher programs sets her apart as one of the hero’s of the education reform movement in the U.S.

I was pleased to read about the days when the interest Betsy DeVos has in education reform was burgeoning as she toured schools across West Michigan looking for ways of providing a better education for children across the region; my impression of Mrs, DeVos has remained that she is a person who set out on her philanthropic career due to a feeling that much more should be done to assist those in need. A dedicated Calvinist, Betsy DeVos remains a supporter of the Potter’s House Christian School she often mentions in interviews I have read regarding the early days of her work as a reformer and philanthropist. I recently discovered Michigan based educational institutions and groups benefited to the tune of around $3 million from the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation in 2015 from a total of charitable giving in that year of more than $11 million.

Despite the dedication Betsy DeVos has shown to the education reform movement she joined in its infancy she has also looked to develop a well rounded life and career that reflect her own traditional American values. Among the projects Mrs. DeVos has become involved in that have affected me positively are her work with the Willow Creek Association that gives individuals the chance to explore their Christian faith in a way that will aid them in becoming leaders in their local community; a further area of interest that has impressed me greatly is the ability of Mrs. DeVos to explore new investment opportunities through The Windquest Group she heads alongside her husband, the former President and CEO of the AmWay group.
